CARE AND COUNSELING PROJECT
Background
The Charis Care and Counseling center was officially recognized as one of the centres of the Myanmar Institute of Theology’s in February 2024. Prior to that, the center had been a project, the care and counseling project, of MIT’s chaplain office since 2018. The project was born from the seed of Chaplaincy seminars. The Care and Counseling project was originally brought up from the passion and empathy of our project director and former center director Rev. Dr. Khin Kyu Kyu, the Chaplain and professor of Myanmar Institute of Theology, with the support of Rev. Dr. Ursula Hecker, the retired hospital Chaplain from Germany. Former project manager Saya Eleazar and admin and financial coordinator Sayama Yinn Ahsar Mee initiated the care and counselling project with the support of project consultant Sayama Thet Mon Myat Thein. The initiative was a success because it met people’s needs at the time and continued to grow in the years that followed.
The Charis Care and Counseling Center of MIT aims to provide quality psychosocial support to not only the MIT family but also to the Myanmar local community, raising awareness that mental health care is normal for a person’s health purpose. Counseling services are offered by the best professionals around the country who have a passion to help people, especially in their mental health care based on current demands and situations. Care and Counseling project, MIT will never stop finding more opportunities in order to help and support people who are in need of mental health care and awareness.
